New Newbury Comics feted

Boston music groups from opposite ends of the spectrum are helping Newbury Comics launch its modern Faneuil Hall record and retail localisation, which opened last month.


On Friday, Eli �Paperboy� Reed & the True Loves will perform a half-hour set at the North Market Building location at 6 p.m. The following afternoon, the reunited New Kids On the Block volition host an autograph session at 1.


Reed is fresh off beingness featured on National Public Radio�s �Morning Edition,� which called the Brookline aboriginal, along with the outfit Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, two of the new faces of soul music.




For those who favor a social club setting, Reed and the True Loves hit Cafe 939 on Boylston Street next Wednesday.


And, of course, the New Kids On the Block ar making the rounds promoting their new album, �The Block.� The Kids� 48-date North American tour hits TD Banknorth Garden on Sept. 26 and 28.



Luck be a lady

Julie Lavery of Whitman is going from Idol to ICONS.


Shamrock Idol, that is.


The Berklee College of Music student won this summer�s Shamrock Idol singing competition, pickings home big top honors at the final singing confrontation Aug. 23 at Freeport Hall in Dorchester.


As portion of her grand trophy, Lavery volition perform at the ICONS Irish Music & Arts festival slated for adjacent weekend at Canton�s Irish Culture Centre. She�s scheduled to perform on the main stage Sunday at 3 p.m.


Other artists slated to perform at ICONS include Liam Clancy, Lunasa and Crooked Still.


Tickets are $25 per clarence Shepard Day Jr. or $60 for a three-day weekend pass. Early-bird ticket buyers can catch $10 off one-day tickets and $25 off three-day passes by purchasing before Saturday through iconsfestival.com.
